“Blessed Be Your Name” is a worship song by Matt Redman, an English Christian worship leader, singer-songwriter and author.

The song was co-written in 2001 by Matt and his wife Beth as a response to the tragedy of the 9/11 attacks in the United States. The Redmans noticed that there was not enough language in church worship music to grapple with grief and pain.

The song draws inspiration from the story of Job, who praised God in the midst of his trials. The lyrics of the song express gratitude and praise for God’s presence and power in the midst of pain and suffering.

The song is based on Job 1:21, which says, “The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord”. The song was first released in 2002 as part of Matt Redman’s album “Where Angels Fear to Tread” and has since become a popular worship song in churches around the world.

In an interview with Worship Together, Matt Redman shared that the song was written during a time of personal struggle and worship exploration.

Matt Redman’ found inspiration in the biblical story of Job and wanted to express the idea that worshiping God is not just for good times but for all seasons of life. The song has been covered by several artists, including Tree63, Newsboys, and Rebecca St. James.
