Australian legal luminary and former Administrator Tom Pauling died on November 23, 2023, at the age of 76.

Since his passing tributes have poured in from across the globe to honour his memory.
Tom is survived by his wife, Tessa, their two children Fred and Zoe, and four grandchildren Millie, Alice, Azlyn and Eliza.

Tom’s journey began with academic excellence, graduating with an LLB from Sydney Law School. After being admitted to the Bar in 1969, he dedicated himself to public service, working for the NSW Public Solicitor.
Relocating to Darwin in 1970, Tom emerged as a distinguished barrister, earning the title of Queen’s Counsel in 1984.
His commitment to justice led to a significant role as the Northern Territory’s Solicitor-General from 1988 to 2007.
Tom Pauling’s legacy expanded further when he became the Administrator in 2007, succeeding Ted Egan, and receiving national recognition in the Queen’s Birthday Honours of 2008.
