Despite facing controversies, such as his 2010 tweet and his stance on fire station closures in London in 2015, Cleverly’s political career remained resilient. In 2015, he became the Conservative Parliamentary candidate for Braintree, ultimately winning the seat in the 2015 general election.

On November 13, 2023, Cleverly assumed the role of Home Secretary, succeeding Suella Braverman. His appointment reflects the trust placed in him by Prime Minister Sunak and underscores his versatility in handling diverse responsibilities.
