These three athletes had illustrious careers at the University of Houston, with Hayden going on to become a first-round draft pick of the Oakland Raiders in 2013, McMillian serving as a four-year starter for the Cougars, and Oragwu making a mark as a standout defensive lineman.

The fatal accident took place at the intersection of Fannin and Pierce Streets, where the players were traveling in an Acura SUV along Fannin Street.

Unfortunately, a Chrysler 300 speeding through a red light on Pierce Street collided with the Acura, resulting in the loss of lives of the former players, the driver, another individual in the Chrysler, and a homeless man on the sidewalk.

Notably, Jeffrey Lewis, another former Cougars football player, survived the accident, adding a bittersweet element to the tragic event.

The University of Houston community is deeply mourning the loss of these beloved former players, emphasizing their significant impact and the void they leave behind.
