Andrew Hevesi is a New York State democratic politician representing the 28th Assembly District.

Daniel is a former New York senator who served from 1998 until 2002, when his district was redrawn.

Who Was Alan Hevesi?

Alan Hevesi was a prominent American politician, and former New York State Comptroller.

Born in Queens, New York City, Hevesi served as a New York State Assemblyman from 1971 to 1993, showcasing a dedication to public service early in his career.

His political journey continued as he assumed the role of New York City Comptroller from 1994 to 2001, followed by his election as New York State Comptroller in 2002, winning re-election in 2006.

However, Hevesi’s career took a dramatic turn when he resigned from office on December 22, 2006, as part of a plea bargain with the Albany County Court.

The resignation was linked to his misuse of state employees to care for his ailing wife, an action that stirred controversy and legal consequences.

In February 2007, Hevesi faced a $5,000 fine and a permanent ban from holding elective office again. Notably, he avoided imprisonment and probation despite the severity of the charges.

This marked the beginning of a turbulent legal journey for Hevesi, as he later pleaded guilty to corruption charges related to a “pay to play” scheme involving the New York State Pension Fund.

On April 15, 2011, Hevesi was sentenced to one to four years in prison, underscoring the gravity of the corruption allegations.

Hevesi passed away on November 9, 2023, at the age of 83, after suffering from Lewy body dementia.
