Inside Joan’s Hollywood Journey

Evans and Farley Granger paired up in three films, all of which stand as cult classics today. Her role in “Roseanna McCoy” came about after a nationwide talent hunt by producer Samuel Goldwyn, following the departure of the original lead, Cathy O’Donnell.

Interestingly, although Evans began her film career at the tender age of 14, her parents adjusted her age, announcing she was 16 at the time “Roseanna McCoy” was released. She delivered stellar performances in three films alongside Granger, making a mark with roles in the drama “Our Very Own” and the gripping “Edge of Doom.”

Evans also showcased her acting prowess alongside Murphy in movies like “Column South,” directed by Fred De Cordova, and “No Name on a Bullet,” under the direction of Jack Arnold.

Joan’s Life After Acting

Born Joan Katherine Eunson in 1934, her mother had a significant presence in Hollywood, working as a journalist and publicist for MGM. Choosing family over fame in the early 1960s, Evans later found her niche as an editor for Hollywood Studio Magazine and shared her knowledge as a teacher at Van Nuys’ Carden Academy.

She leaves behind a lasting legacy, survived by her son John, daughter Dale, and a grandson, Chris.
