As the representative for Minnesota’s 3rd congressional district since 2019, Phillips is known for his wealth, which is estimated to be around $124 million, making him one of the most affluent members in the House of Representatives.

But how did Dean Phillips amass such wealth? His financial success story is a testament to his diverse business ventures, strategic investments, and innovative thinking.

One of the key contributors to his wealth is his role as a multi-millionaire gelato tycoon. Phillips’s foray into the world of gelato began with the management of a small Texas-based gelato company called Talenti.

His father had previously invested in this business, and Dean’s involvement turned it into one of the best-selling ice cream brands in the country. Eventually, Talenti was acquired by the multinational packaged goods company Unilever in 2014, marking a successful chapter in Phillips’s entrepreneurial journey.

Before his involvement with gelato, Dean Phillips had an impressive career in the liquor industry. During a business trip to Poland in 1993, he played a pivotal role in acquiring the rights to two Polish vodkas.

Subsequently, Phillips Beverage Company started importing these spirits to the United States, marketing them as Belvedere and Chopin. This venture laid the foundation for his prominence in the alcoholic beverage industry.

Phillips also had a significant tenure as the CEO of Phillips Distilling Company, which he assumed in 2000 after earning an MBA from the University of Minnesota. Under his leadership, the company’s value reportedly grew to over $175 million by 2012.

Dean Phillips’s business acumen extends beyond the food and beverage industry. He co-founded Penny’s Coffee, a Minnesota-based coffee shop chain, in 2015.

Apart from his direct business ventures, Phillips’s net worth stems from a variety of sources. He has ownership stakes in several businesses, stock holdings in companies like Apple and Facebook, mutual funds, government securities, life insurance policies, and hedge funds
