Who Is Kool Moe Dee?

Kool Moe Dee is a rapper, songwriter, and actor, who rose to prominence as a founding figure in hip hop’s evolution, both as part of the Treacherous Three and during his impressive solo career.

In the 1980s, Kool Moe Dee’s name was associated with the pioneering group, the Treacherous Three.

He had seven studio albums to his name, five of which were solo projects. His 1994 album, “Interlude,” marked his last studio release.

One of the defining aspects of Kool Moe Dee’s style was his fast and aggressive rap delivery. This distinctive approach influenced an array of subsequent rap figures, including luminaries such as Big Daddy Kane, Beastie Boys, KRS-One, Rakim, Will Smith, N.W.A, Tupac Shakur, Nas, and Jay-Z, among others.

Kool Moe Dee’s hit tracks, including “Go See the Doctor,” “Wild Wild West,” and “How Ya Like Me Now,” have become iconic in the hip-hop canon.

In recognition of his immense talent and impact, Kool Moe Dee was ranked No. 33 on About.com’s list of the 50 Greatest MCs of Our Time (1987–2007).

One particularly noteworthy collaboration was with the legendary Quincy Jones on the album “Back on the Block” in 1990. Alongside fellow rap luminaries like Melle Mel, Big Daddy Kane, and Ice-T, Kool Moe Dee’s contribution to this critically acclaimed album led to it winning the 1991 Grammy Award for Album of the Year.

His last single, “Love Love/What You Wanna Do,” was released on Spoiled Brat Entertainment Inc.
