Koji Sato began his automotive journey in April 1992 when he joined Toyota, fresh out of Waseda University with a degree in mechanical engineering.
Sato’s early days at Toyota saw him in the Technology Administration Division, but it was in the realm of product development that he truly left his mark.

He led a team responsible for the suspension design of the groundbreaking first-generation Prius and Vista sedan, showcasing his dedication to innovation and sustainability.
In 2003, Sato took on the pivotal role of developing the North American Camry sedan.

His transition to Lexus in 2006 marked the beginning of a new chapter. There, he served as the Assistant Chief Engineer on the GS sedan, immersing himself in the luxury vehicle segment.
However, it was in 2012 when Sato’s influence and responsibilities expanded significantly. He was entrusted with managing the development of a new platform for Lexus, the foundation for its top-tier models.
Under his guidance, the Lexus LC Concept was born – a dynamic coupe that captured the imagination of the automotive world and was quickly greenlit for production.
Sato’s role continued to evolve as he was appointed as the Chief Engineer of the production version of the Lexus LC, highlighting his ability to bring innovative ideas to life.
In January 2020, Sato was named the President of Lexus International, where he oversaw the global operations of Lexus and upheld its status as a leader in the luxury automotive market.
Finally, in April 2023, Sato reached the pinnacle of his career when he became the President of Toyota Motor Corporation.
