Tasha Butts was a basketball coach in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA).

In 2004, the Minnesota Lynx welcomed her with open arms as the 20th overall pick in the WNBA draft.

Throughout the 2004 season, Tasha Butts proudly donned the Lynx jersey, showcasing her skills and leaving an indelible mark on the court.

But Butts was more than just a player; she was a tireless advocate for the sport. In 2005, she returned to the University of Tennessee as a graduate assistant, further strengthening her ties to the basketball world.

Her coaching journey spanned over 17 seasons, where she became a respected figure in NCAA basketball.

From Duquesne University to the University of California, Los Angeles, and later at Louisiana State University, Tasha Butts contributed to the growth of young talents and instilled a competitive spirit in her teams.

Her legacy continued at Georgia Tech before reaching its pinnacle when, in April 2023, she was named the head coach of the Georgetown Hoyas women’s basketball team.

Butts died of breast cancer on October 22, 2023, at the age of 41.
