Charles Edward Young was a prominent American university administrator and professor who left a mark on the world of higher education through his distinguished career and contributions.
Hailing from California, Young’s leadership and academic stewardship extended to some of the most esteemed institutions in the United States.
A significant chapter in Young’s illustrious career was his role as the Chancellor of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) for 29 years.

During his time at UCLA, he oversaw the institution’s transformation from a regional school to a global research university, a testament to his visionary leadership.
Young also assumed the role of President at the University of Florida, where he served for over four years.
He additionally took on the presidency of the Qatar Foundation from 2004 to 2006, contributing to international educational endeavors.
Throughout his career, Young was recognized for his academic and scholarly achievements.
Young died from natural causes, on October 22, 2023, in his Sonoma, California home, at the age of 91.
