At the age of 86, a legendary real-life “Goodfellas” gangster who was thought to have been responsible for one of the largest heists to ever occur on US territory passed away.

‘Vinny’ Asaro, a capo for the Bonanno crime organization, passed away on Saturday, according to reports. His family has announced that his funeral will be place on Friday at St. Helen’s Catholic Church in Queens, New York City, despite the fact that the reason of his death remains unknown.

The famed Lufthansa theft at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York City, which was later portrayed in the film Goodfellas, was claimed to have involved Asaro. The FBI finally detained him and other suspects in 2014, and Asaro was charged with federal racketeering for the robbery.
