He was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 25th round of the 1977 Major League Baseball Draft and was traded to the Houston Astros in June 1979 as part of a deal for Bob Watson.

Pete Ladd was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers for Rickey Keeton after two seasons in the Houston Astros’ farm system. He made his  Major League debut with Houston in 1979.
