Synagogue leader Samantha Woll met her tragic death on October 21, 2023, after she was stabbed in front of her home, in Detroit’s Lafayette Park neighborhood. She was aged 40.

Who Was Samantha Woll?
Samantha Woll was the president of the Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue in Detroit, Michigan, who dedicated her life to fostering unity and understanding.
Woll co-chaired the American Jewish Committee’s ACCESS Detroit Young Leadership Program. Her leadership in this program spoke to her belief in the importance of young voices in shaping the future.
Woll was also the founder of the Muslim-Jewish Forum of Detroit, and was selected as one of the “36 under 36” by the Detroit Jewish News in 2017.

From 2019 to 2021, she served as the deputy district director on Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin’s political campaign. Samantha also played a role in Attorney General Dana Nessel’s re-election campaign.

In 2015, during a time of global turmoil following the November 2015 Paris attacks, Samantha organized an event at Wayne State University through the Greater Detroit Muslim Jewish Solidarity Council.
High school students of Muslim and Jewish faith were brought together through an essay and art contest. This event aimed to promote unity and foster understanding among the younger generation, emphasizing the power of dialogue and art in transcending boundaries.
In 2022, Samantha Woll assumed the role of president of the Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue. Her leadership marked a new chapter for the synagogue.
Woll’s untimely passing is not just a loss for the Jewish community but for all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
