Brian Jones Parents: Meet Lewis Blount Jones and Louisa Beatrice Jones

The story of Brian Jones, a founding member of one of the greatest rock bands in history, The Rolling Stones, is a tale that begins in the heart of Gloucestershire.

Born on February 28, 1942, in Cheltenham, Jones was destined for a remarkable journey in music. At the core of his early life were his parents, Lewis Blount Jones and Louisa Beatrice Jones, both of Welsh descent.

Brian’s parents, Lewis and Louisa, provided the nurturing environment in which the young musician’s talents would flourish. Their family was middle-class, and they shared a deep appreciation for music.

His father Lewis Blount Jones, besides his work as an aeronautical engineer, was a piano teacher. Louisa Beatrice Jones had a profound connection to music as well. She not only played the piano and organ but also took on the role of leading the local church choir.

In addition to Brian, the Jones family included two sisters, Pamela and Barbara. Pamela was born on October 3, 1943, but her life was tragically cut short when she succumbed to leukemia on October 14, 1945.

The loss of his younger sister at such a young age deeply affected Brian and his family. Following this tragedy, his sister Barbara was born on August 22, 1946. She would play a role in Brian’s life as his journey in music and fame unfolded.

In 1957, at the age of 15, he was introduced to the captivating sounds of Cannonball Adderley’s jazz. This was a pivotal moment that ignited his interest in jazz music. His determination led him to convince his parents to purchase a saxophone, the instrument that would initiate his musical journey. Two years later, on his 17th birthday, his parents gave him an acoustic guitar, a gift that would become instrumental in shaping the sound of The Rolling Stones.
