As DJ Mark The 45 King, a true legend in the music business, passes away at the age of 62, the hip-hop community is in sorrow today. Born and raised in the Bronx, New York, Mark The 45 King started making music in the middle of the 1980s, just as hip-hop was becoming a significant cultural force.

He made some truly legendary contributions to the genre. In the late 1980s, he got his start by producing Queen Latifah’s debut album, “All Hail the Queen.” But his accomplishments go well beyond this first endeavor.

Some of hip-hop’s most cherished classics, such as Eminem’s “Stan” and Jay-Z’s “Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem),” were created by Mark.

Despite not having any children of his own, Mark regarded everyone in the Flavor Unit as his children, according to the Flavor Unit.

When Mark created the 1990 instrumental smash “900 Number,” which featured the well-known “Ed Lover dance,” his career reached new heights. Jay-Z’s 1998 breakthrough song “Hard Knock Life” and Eminem’s timeless story “Stan” both featured his production work, which helped him continue to be successful.
