Sidney Powell, once a lawyer for Donald Trump, has entered a guilty plea to six counts in the Georgia election interference investigation.

Powell, known for advocating unfounded theories regarding the 2020 election outcomes, has struck an agreement with the prosecution and is set to be a witness in the upcoming trial. The case involves 19 other co-defendants, including the former president.
She was indicted for conspiring to deliberately interfere with election procedures. As part of her plea agreement, Powell will serve six years of probation and is mandated to provide honest testimony in subsequent trials. This arrangement is viewed as a significant achievement for the prosecutors, given Powell’s direct role in Trump’s efforts to contest Georgia’s election results.

Additionally, Powell was obliged to provide a verbal statement detailing her actions related to the case, pay a penalty, and draft an apology letter to the residents of Georgia.
Her guilty plea was registered in an Atlanta courtroom this past Thursday, right before her trial was due to commence.
The legal team has alleged that Powell, alongside other Trump affiliates and backers, intruded on the election system in Coffee County, Georgia, in early 2021. Their aim was to convince officials and the public that the election had been unjustly skewed against Trump.
Specifically, it’s alleged that Powell enlisted a forensic group and directed them to Coffee County, where they unlawfully entered government systems to inspect voter information.
Prosecutors contend she planned to interfere with voting devices, e-ballots, and voter records, extract ballots from a voting site, and obstruct an election official’s duties.
Powell was a prominent endorser of Trump’s baseless 2020 election allegations. She famously stood alongside Trump’s legal team in a November 2020 press event, making unsubstantiated claims that Dominion Voting Systems’ machines could be manipulated to divert votes from Trump to Biden.
A month later, during a meeting at the White House, there was speculation about Powell being considered for a special counsel role to examine supposed voter fraud in Georgia and other states.
Powell was a focal point in the televised sessions last year by the committee examining the January 6 Capitol breach, highlighting her intricate collaboration with Trump and his team on strategies to dispute the election results.
Moreover, Dominion has filed a defamation lawsuit against Powell, demanding restitution of approximately $1.3 billion (£1.7 billion).
