Stephen Emery, renowned entertainment executive and producer, passed away unexpectedly on Oct. 14 following an exercise session in Redondo Beach, Calif. He was 46 years old.

Emery had an active role at Big Swell Entertainment, a company founded by Andy Horowitz in late 2022. Before this, he was at the helm of film and TV projects at The Solution Entertainment Group from 2016 to 2022. Among his notable credits are co-executive productions for Netflix’s “Wheelman” and executive roles in films like “Killerman,” “Line of Duty,” “Honest Thief,” and the soon-to-be-released “Werewolves.”

His extensive career also includes a stint as the executive vice president for production and development at Circle of Confusion between 2008 and 2015. Here, he made significant contributions to projects like “Mr. Right,” “Wake,” and “Satanic.”
Starting his journey in the entertainment sector at the Creative Artists Agency, Emery spent three years in the motion picture talent division. He later took on roles at DreamWorks and Focus Features, followed by a significant role at Valhalla Motion Picture under Gale Anne Hurd, where he supervised the creation of “Aeon Flux” for Paramount Pictures. His journey continued as he took charge of Bill Gerber’s outfit at Warner Bros., contributing to the production of “Major Movie Star” for Millennium Films and Clint Eastwood’s iconic “Gran Torino” for Warner Bros.
Hailing from the San Francisco Bay Area, Emery was a passionate follower of the San Francisco Giants and the 49ers. He held dual citizenship in both the U.S. and the U.K. A fervent Grateful Dead fan, Emery also had a love for the outdoors. He boasted an impressive academic and athletic background, having played NCAA division one varsity football for the University of San Diego. He graduated with a degree in mass communications, focusing on film and television, complemented by a minor in business administration.
