Gary Rowett Parents: Meet his father Eric Rowett

Gary Rowett, the accomplished English professional football manager and former player, has undoubtedly made his mark in the world of football.

However, the roots of his remarkable journey can be traced back to his early life, influenced significantly by his family’s nomadic tendencies.

Born to his father, Eric Rowett, and an undisclosed mother, Gary Rowett’s upbringing was characterized by frequent moves and an ever-changing backdrop.

Eric Rowett served as a prison governor, a profession that necessitated relocating as part of the job. As a result, Gary’s early years were marked by shifting landscapes and an exploration of different regions.

Gary Rowett’s birthplace is Bromsgrove, a town known for its rich heritage. However, despite this association, Rowett spent a considerable portion of his formative years away from this familiar setting. The Rowett family’s true ‘home’ region was located further south, specifically on the Isle of Wight.

“Dad worked at Grange Prison,” Rowett explained, shedding light on his family’s journey. “I was born in Bromsgrove Hospital. We lived in Redditch, I am assuming Grange Prison is in Redditch. We lived on the prison estate, or whatever it was, as that was how it worked then. And then he moved to Featherstone Prison, over in Cannock. I was about two when we moved over that way.”

The transient nature of Gary Rowett’s upbringing contributed to his development in various ways. It instilled in him a ‘roaming mentality,’ as he described it. The experience of moving frequently as a child nurtured his adaptability and comfort in new environments.
