His contributions to unsolved crimes earned him a long-standing reputation in the Netherlands. The documentary he produced on Natalee Holloway’s disappearance helped him gain international recognition. His own political party, which he created in 2005 but quickly disbanded, was not long for this world.

De Vries was shot in the head on July 6, 2021, outside the RTL Boulevard television studio in Amsterdam, where he had just finished a guest appearance. He passed away nine days after being admitted to a hospital in severe condition.

As of July 15, a 21-year-old wannabe rapper by the name of Delano G. is suspected of being the shooter, and a 35-year-old Polish man by the name of Kamil E. is accused of operating the getaway vehicle.

On the evening of July 6, Mr. de Vries was attacked as he left a television studio on the Lange Leidsedwarsstraat in the heart of Amsterdam after a conversation program.
He was struck in the head after being the target of five close-range gunfire.
