Peter R. de Vries was a Dutch investigative reporter and crime reporter (14 November 1956 – 15 July 2021). He covered high-profile crimes for his television show Peter R. de Vries, Misdaadverslaggever (Crime Reporter; 1995–2012), which broke a viewership record in the Netherlands.

He enjoyed a long career of fame in the Netherlands due to his contributions to unsolved crimes. Additionally, he gained recognition on a global scale for his documentary on Natalee Holloway’s disappearance. He started his own political party in 2005, but it was shortly dissolved.

De Vries was shot in the head on July 6, 2021, after leaving the RTL Boulevard television studio in Amsterdam, where he had been a guest. In critical condition, he was transferred to a hospital, where he passed away nine days later.

Wouter de Vries Sr. gave birth to Peter Rudolf de Vries on November 14, 1956 in Aalsmeer, Netherlands. He went to Amstelveen for elementary school and Amsterdam for secondary education. He served in the Royal Netherlands Army from 1976 to 1977, rising to the rank of sergeant.
