Burt Young, the Oscar-nominated performer best remembered for his iconic portrayal of Paulie in the “Rocky” film series, has passed away at the age of 83, according to his manager, who spoke to ABC News.

Alongside John Huston, Faye Dunaway, and Jack Nicholson, he played Curly in the 1974 film “Chinatown.” Young and James Caan co-starred in the movie “The Gambler,” which featured a professor who runs into financial difficulties as a result of his gambling debt, in the role of Carmine.

In the 1970s, Young played many different characters on television, including in the 1976 television series “Serpico” and the 1975 TV movie “Hustling.” He appeared in all six “Rocky” movies up until “Rocky Balboa” in 2006, although he was best known for his career-defining performance as Paulie, the loving but cynical brother-in-law of Sylvester Stallone’s character.
