A musician and artist from Lubbock, Texas, Terry Allen was born on May 7, 1943. Allen’s musical career as a singer-songwriter has spanned numerous Texas country and outlaw country albums, and his work as a visual artist has included painting, conceptual art, performance, and sculpture, with several notable bronze sculptures installed publicly in different cities across the United States. In Santa Fe, New Mexico, he currently resides.

Additionally, Allen employs a wide range of media in his work, such as musical and theatrical performances, sculpture, painting, drawing, and video, as well as installations that combine any or all of these media. Both domestically and abroad, his art has been exhibited. With the Panhandle Mystery Band, Allen made the 1980 album Smokin’ the Dummy, which was released.

Jo Harvey Allen, a writer and performer, along with her husband, Terry Allen, a musician and artist, and their two sons, Bukka and Bale, both teenagers. His contentious public sculpture “Modern Communication” is located in Kansas City, Missouri, as is The Belger Collection, which counts Terry Allen as one of its seven “core artists.”
