Since 2022, Australia’s professional dual-code rugby coach and former player Michael Cheika has served as the head coach of Argentina’s national team. Cheika was an under-21 player for Australia and a No. 8. He participated in more than 300 matches for Randwick, where he helped the Galloping Greens win the Shute Shield seven times.

After leaving Australian Rugby, Cheika accepted an assistant coaching position with the Sydney Roosters Rugby League Team in the National Rugby League (NRL). The Argentine Rugby Union (UAR) announced in September 2020 that Cheika has joined the team ahead of the 2020 Tri Nations Series, embarking on an advising position and reuniting with former Wallabies head coach Mario Ledesma.
