Australia’s professional dual-code rugby coach and former player Michael Cheika has been Argentina’s head coach since 2022. Cheika was a No. 8 player for Australia’s under-21 team. He played in more than 300 games for Randwick, where he contributed to the Galloping Greens’ seven Shute Shield victories.

Cheika left Australian Rugby and took a job as an assistant coach with the National Rugby League (NRL)’s Sydney Roosters Rugby League Team. In September 2020, the Argentine Rugby Union (UAR) declared that Cheika has joined the team ahead of the 2020 Tri Nations Series, taking on an advisory role and reconnecting with former Wallabies head coach Mario Ledesma. This was in advance of the team’s participation in the Tri Nations Series.
