Brian Langton, a former mayor, longtime state Labor MP for Kogarah, and Carr administration minister, passed away at the age of 75.
Mr. Langton received his education at Marist Brothers at Kogarah, and at the age of 23, when he was elected to the Kogarah Council, he started his political career. He served as mayor in 1979 and 1980 in addition to his twelve years on the council.

In 1983, Mr. Langton was chosen to serve in the NSW Legislative Assembly. He left office in March 1999. When Labor took over as the government in 1995, Mr. Langton, who had previously served as the shadow transport minister, was named Minister of Transport and Tourism.

Up to December 1997, when he was appointed Minister for Fair Trading and Emergency Services, he served in those capacities. He was named chairman of Sydney Ferries Corporation in 2008.
