Brian Langton: Former Kogarah mayor dies at 75

Brian Langton (24 January 1948 – 16 October 2023) was a politician for the Australian Labor Party who held the positions of mayor of Kogarah in Sydney’s St. George neighborhood and representative for Kogarah in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly. The Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) determined in 1998 that Langton had engaged in corruption by filing travel reimbursements inadvertently.

Langton was elected to the New South Wales Parliament in 1983 as a Labor Party representative for Kogarah, and he held that position continuously for sixteen years. Brian Langton was named a minister after Labor took over the government in 1995. He was responsible for the portfolios of transportation and tourism from April 1995 to December 1997, and then fair trading and emergency services beginning in December 1997.

The ‘mighty’ Brian Langton, a lifelong Labor heavyweight who passed away at the age of 75, was honored by NSW Premier Chris Minns.
Brian held the positions of Minister for Transport and Minister for Tourism in the Carr Labor Government before moving on to serve as Minister for Fair Trading and Minister for Emergency Services.
