Irish football player Gerry Ryan, who played as a striker or winger and died on October 15, 2023, was born on October 4, 1955. He appeared in 18 games and registered one goal for the Republic of Ireland.

Ryan, a Dublin native, started his professional career on February 9, 1975, with Bohemians. After 14 goals in 53 games, Ryan won a transfer to Derby County the following year.

His career was cut short in 1985 due to a broken leg received in a tackle from Crystal Palace’s Henry Hughton. He then transferred to Brighton for £100,000 and played against Manchester United in the 1983 FA Cup Final with them. During the years 1978 to 1984, he participated in 18 games for Ireland.
