Irish professional footballer Gerry Ryan, who played as a striker or winger, was born on October 4, 1955, and passed away on October 15, 2023. For the Republic of Ireland national team, he made 18 appearances and scored once.

Ryan, a Dublin native, started his career on February 9, 1975, at Bohemians, and in 1977, after scoring 14 goals in 53 appearances, he was transferred to Derby County.

His career was ended in 1985 after breaking his leg in a tackle from Henry Hughton of Crystal Palace. He then transferred to Brighton for £100,000 and played there in the 1983 FA Cup Final against Manchester United. Between 1978 and 1984, he participated in 18 games for Ireland.

Gerry Ryan, a former footballer for the Republic of Ireland and Brighton, passed away at the age of 68. The Dubliner moved from Derby to the Seagulls in 1978, where he played 199 games and scored 39 goals.

Ryan participated in the 1983 FA Cup final against Manchester United, which the Red Devils won 4-0 in a rematch after the first match between the teams ended 2-2, and scored the goal that ensured Albion’s promotion to the top division that season.
