Jakob Chychrun, the talented professional ice hockey defenseman, was born and raised in the sunny city of Boca Raton, Florida. While Florida may not be the first place that comes to mind when thinking about hockey, the Chychrun family’s deep roots in the sport would soon become evident.

At the heart of Jakob’s hockey journey is his father, Jeff Chychrun. Jeff carved out his own legacy in the NHL as a defenseman, playing for eight seasons with the Philadelphia Flyers, Los Angeles Kings, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Edmonton Oilers.

One of the highlights of Jeff’s NHL career came in 1992 when his name was engraved on the Stanley Cup as a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Although he didn’t suit up for them during their post-season Cup run, being part of such an elite group of athletes and lifting the iconic trophy is a moment he undoubtedly cherishes.

The Chychrun family’s heritage is a unique blend of Ukrainian and Jewish descent. This cultural richness has undoubtedly contributed to Jakob’s diverse perspective and experiences, both on and off the ice.

In addition to Jeff Chychrun’s NHL career, the family’s hockey lineage extends even further with Jakob’s uncle, Luke Richardson. A former NHL defenseman himself, Luke Richardson currently serves as the head coach of the Chicago Blackhawks.
