Hubert Reeves, a French-Canadian physicist known for popularizing space science, passed away on Friday at the age of 91, according to a Facebook post from his son.
On July 13, 1932, he was born in Montreal, and from an early age, he had a thirst for knowledge.

Reeves’ family would go outside at night to enjoy the sky at their Quebec home, and it was there that he first learned to identify constellations by using a cardboard sheet. He did well in physics and, by the time he was 18, he was certain he wanted to be an astronomer.

He earned his doctorate at Cornell University, and in the early 1960s, he worked for NASA as a scientific adviser before beginning to teach at the University of Belgium. He then turned into a fervent environmental activist who urged legislators to take action.
