Hubert Reeves, an astronomer from Quebec who was also an environmentalist, a writer, and a 91-year-old man, passed away on Friday. His lengthy career has seen him win various honors in Quebec, the US, and Europe, including the Samuel de Champlain and Albert Einstein medals.

One of the top astrophysicists of his time, Hubert Reeves is a Companion of the Order of Canada, an Officer of the Order of the National of Quebec, and the recipient of eight honorary doctorates. In addition to hundreds of articles in specialist magazines, he is the author of almost forty books.

Hubert Reeves, who was born in Montreal on July 13, 1932, became fascinated with science at a young age. He initially devoured “L’Encyclopédie de la jeunesse,” then he delved into his “priceless treasure trove of battered books,” old school textbooks.

Benoit Reeves, Hubert Reeves’ son, posted a message on social media to inform people of his father’s passing. In January of this year (2023), Benoit turned 63 years old. On January 1st, 1960, he was born. As of this writing, we don’t know anything about his education or job.
On Friday, October 12, 2023, Hubert Reeves—a champion of science who was 91 years old—passed away. Benoit Reeves, his son, made the announcement of his death on social media but omitted to state the cause.
