10 Animals That Don’t Sleep

The animal kingdom is completely different from the human kingdom. While everyone sleeps for at least eight hours – less or more a day, in the human kingdom, the animal kingdom is not like that. In the Animal Kingdom, some animals do not sleep in their entire life cycle. They relax for while but never sleeps.

Much as for most animals, sleep is an important process that serves several functions, some animals barely sleep but still function normally.

Here is a list of animals that Don’t sleep but functions normally

Giraffe

Giraffe is known by its long necks and tall postures. The giraffe does not sleep but they nap for a while. They lean their head to their body for a while to nap for no time and quickly move on.

Baby Dolphin

Newborn Dolphins do not sleep for the first month. They remain awake and alert with their mother and the mother do not also sleep for this time. This is to ensure and protect themselves from predators until the newborn dolphins come of age to protect itself.

Bullfrogs

Bullfrogs are the biggest frogs on earth. They never sleep according to scientists. Scientists have tested them in a laboratory and concluded that they are very active during the night and alert during day time and ever ready to respond to stimuli.

Elephants

Elephants are one of the biggest terrestrial animals. They spend most of their time eating and searching for food. Elephants do not sleep but they take a short nap by leaning to the biggest trees. Elephants in zoo sleep for a while because they find food easily.

Alpine Swifts

Alpine Swifts spend most of their time flying in the air in search of food which are insects. Alpine Swift can fly for six months without landing to search for food in the air and it prevents them from sleeping.

Deer

Deer do not sleep but nap for seconds and continue to search for food. They always have their necks stretched and while they nap for seconds they remain active.

Ostriches

Ostriches are animals with many predators including cheetahs, lions and leopards. Ostriches stay awake to protect themselves from these predators. They often close their eyes to nap but very sensitive to detect predators. Ostriches do not bury their heads in the sand from dangers.

Horses

Horses are part of the animals that do not sleep but take a nap for a while. Horses nap while standing to prevent predators. This is because they find it difficult to lay down or up quickly because of how their body is made.

Seal

Seal is also known as Pinnipeds and they spend most of their times in the sea in search of food. Under the sea, they nap or sleep for about a minute with their brains active to detect predators.

 Whale

Whales are part of the animals that do not sleep. Whales do not sleep because their body temperature is lowered when they sleep so they force to prevent sleep and nap for about 10-15 minutes.
